Richard de Luchi was born in 1947 of Anglo-Italian descent and spent his formative years in the English Lake District, Malta, Scotland, and Bath in the west of England. He completed his formal education in Italy and at the University of East Anglia, UK. These places have all had an influence on his world view, one way or another.
As a painter, Richard de Luchi is primarily concerned with landscape, portraiture, and still life and related themes. Painting, drawing in a variety of media, as well as printmaking, weaving, needlepoint, and sculpting in clay are all techniques that are explored in a quest for a personal vision of the world around us. As a designer, he has also worked on liturgical vestments and ceramics.
Richard de Luchi has lived in Portugal since 1984 and has drawn inspiration from Portuguese landscape, architecture, and decorative arts.
